In the upcoming K-drama, Queen of Tears‘s Kim Soo Hyun takes on the role of Sung Joon in this new work — a man who transforms from an office worker to a merchant and eventually rises to become the king of the counterfeit market.

When asked why he chose this role, Kim explained, “The premise is incredibly captivating. The survival tactics of the character Kim Sung Joon, in particular, intrigued me. His journey from an ordinary office worker to a merchant and ultimately to the counterfeit king was fascinating. I thought it would be fun to bring that transformation to life.”

Jo Bo Ah, who plays Hye Jung, Sung Joon’s first love and a government official pursuing him, described the series’ setting, saying, “The backdrop is Korea in the 1990s to 2000s. I found the nostalgic aspect appealing and enjoyed reading the script, which led me to choose the role.”

Director Park Hyun Seok shared his thoughts on casting the lead roles, modestly saying, “Rather than me casting them, I feel like I was chosen by the cast. When I made casting offers, I watched their previous works and nervously waited, hoping they would accept.”

Visiting Singapore for the first time in nearly 10 years, Kim Soo Hyun said, “Fortunately, I arrived two days before the event, so I was able to indulge in a food tour, enjoying chili crab, pepper crab, peanut toast, and kaya toast to my heart’s content. Once my schedule wraps up, I’m considering trying one more dish,” demonstrating his full enjoyment of Singapore.

Set to premiere on Disney+ next year, Knock Off tells the story of a man whose life is completely upended by the IMF crisis, leading him to transform from an ordinary office worker to the global “king of the counterfeit market.”
