Hwang Min Hyun’s high-school-themed action comedy K-drama Study Group has emerged as a K-drama sensation.
Tving Original series Study Group is receiving rave reviews both in South Korea and overseas, showcasing the value of high school action dramas.
From Yoon Ga Min’s (played by Hwang Min Hyun) exhilarating action scenes to the growth of the Study Group members, the K-drama delivers catharsis and entertains with its unique plot. As a result, it has recorded a 2-fold increase in paid subscribers compared to its first week of release, securing the top spot in Tving’s paid subscriber rankings for two consecutive weeks. Not only that, the K-drama has secured a spot in the top five in 143 regions on the global OTT Rakuten Viki.

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, Study Group follows Yoon Ga Min, who dreams of excelling academically but is born a martial arts prodigy. He enrolls in Yusung Technical High School and starts a study group to improve his grades and get into college, but he quickly realizes that survival in this infamous school is more about strength than intelligence. As he and his friends try to peacefully study in a school plagued by violence and corruption, he finds himself using his fists more than his books to protect his classmates and stand up to powerful enemies. The K-drama also stars Han Ji Eun, Cha Woo Min, Lee Jong Hyun, Shin Su Hyun, and Yoon Sang Jung, among others.
Released on January 23, the K-drama has received an 8.9 rating on MyDramaList and 9.8 on Rakuten Viki, at the time of writing. With its popularity only growing, Study Group will most likely mark its name among all-time Tving hits.
